News From Third Grade

 Dear Parents,                                                    January 16, 2018

This week we will visit the library and I will have your child choose a book to be used for the second book report. Some children are reading books from your home library which is fine as long as I approve the book. Please sign and return the parent notification slip sent home.

You may help your child by making sure the book he/she brought home is of interest and you can follow along their progress of taking notes on the story. Once again, we will be using the notes to complete a rough draft in class. The outline notes are due January 31.

With our study of continents and oceans, your child will be expected to identify and label all the major oceans and continents on a map. A study sheet will come home this week.

Book Reports!

Yes, it is time to begin thinking about our next book report. Students may choose a book of their liking. The project will be a diorama (begin to look for a suitable shoebox to use).

No spelling homework or test this week due to it being a short week.

Reading                               The reading log is due Friday

This week we are reading a story titled “Aero and Officer Mike”. Aero is a police dog that lives and works with Officer Mike. The author uses different text structures to preset details about the main idea: the partnership between a police officer and his police dog. It uses headings, picture, and captions as well as text to present important facts and ideas.

We will be finishing up Module 3 and taking the end of the module test. Module 4 focuses on geometric shapes, area, and perimeter. Continue to work on memorizing multiplication facts.
